George Washington Law School has appointed Gregory E. Maggs as interim dean during the university’s nationwide search to replace law school dean, Frederick M. Lawrence. A member of the faculty since 1993, Maggs has previously served as senior associate dean for academic affairs and co-director of the National Security & U.S. Foreign Relations Law program.
“I worked closely with Dean Lawrence for the past two years and hope to continue his efforts to keep the Law School moving forward,” Maggs said. “We are poised in many ways to reach a higher level of excellence, and I am grateful to be a part of that opportunity.”
Maggs has an extensive background in the legal sector. After graduating law school he was a clerk for Clarence Thomas and Anthony M. Kennedy of the U.S. Supreme Court. At GW Law, he teaches commercial law and constitutional law, contracts and counter-terrorism law. In addition he is an officer of the U.S. Army Reserve and occasionally serves as a military judge.
Upon Maggs’ appointment as interim dean, Edward Swaine has been name associate dean for academic affairs.
