Contrary to common complaint, there are many services that are specifically dedicated to the success of international LL.M. students. I want to highlight one such wonderful service here: Job Fairs for international LL.M. students.

The job fairs below list participating law schools and are are divided by region. Not every law school sponsors or participates in these events. If your law school is not participating in a job fair of your interest, ask your law school about alternative career support for LL.M. students.

East Coast

Columbia LL.M. Interview Program

The Columbia LL.M. Interview Program is an annual program administered by Columbia Law School that brings together legal employers from around the world to meet with LL.M. students from seven U.S. law schools.

LL.M. students have the opportunity to interview for permanent and training postgraduate positions with U.S. and foreign law firms. The LL.M. Interview Program takes place in late January in Manhattan.

Participating law schools are:

 – Columbia Law School

 – Harvard Law School

 – Stanford Law School

 – University of Chicago Law School

 – University of Michigan Law School

 – University of Virginia School of Law

 – Yale Law School

International Student Interview Program

The International Student Interview Program (ISIP) is administered and hosted by New York University School of Law (NYU) every year. ISIP is sponsored by 33 U.S. law schools to facilitate the hiring of foreign-trained lawyers enrolled in LL.M. programs at participating schools. This job fair is quite big. In recent years, over 1,600 LL.M. candidates representing more than 75 countries had an opportunity to interview for internship and permanent positions in the U.S. and abroad. The program attracts more than 160 legal employers from around the world. Access to ISIP is by law school invitation only.

ISIP is a fantastic opportunity to interview with a wonderful pool of law firms. It has one caveat, though – most firms are recruiting for their offices abroad. If you are looking to find work in the U.S., ISIP may disappoint you. No matter what your career goals are, attending this fair is highly recommended, as it is a one of a kind opportunity.
