Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law is known for its skills-centered approach to practicing law. In 2015, NSU Law redeveloped its clinical program which is housed in a state-of-the-art clinical suite within the law school. The live client clinics are augmented by a full-time field placement program enabling students to spend a full semester practicing law on campus, in Florida, across the United States, or in select locations throughout the globe. Through clinical and field placement programs, every NSU Law student is guaranteed a live-client course.
NSU Law students are carefully trained and prepared for these live-client capstone experiences. The curriculum features more than forty workshop courses, enabling students to learn the actual practice of law in simulated settings. The Trial and Appellate Advocacy program supports summer boot-camp training, more than thirty-five competition teams, and opportunities to work with judges and members of the bar.
To accomplish this, NSU Law has pioneered a curriculum on the business of lawyering through the Global Law Leadership Initiative which offers an immersive summer program and additional coursework. This program brings together business and operations planning, leadership development, technology, intellectual property, and international law to prepare students for the dynamic, changing future of legal services.
In addition to these specialty programs, NSU Law students have a wide range of additional opportunities, including concentrations in International Law or Health Law; dual degree opportunities with partner schools in Barcelona, Prague, and Rome; a wide range of dual degree programs at NSU, including business, oceanography, computer science, and medicine, study abroad programs; and much more.
NSU is also a very diverse campus with 50 percent of their enrollment identifying as a minority.
