Basic Information
Religious Affiliation:

Pepperdine University School of Law, located in Malibu, with stunning views of one of the world’s most beautiful ocean coastlines, is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. It is known for its work in the global justice movement and holds legal institutes around the world on human rights, religious freedom and global development involving students and faculty.

The school offers certificates in criminal law, international law and alternative dispute resolution, including negotiation and arbitration.

“Dispute resolution outside the courtroom is really where our legal system is headed, and we have emphasized programs in this regard,” said Deanell Reece Tacha, dean of the school. “We even ran an interesting conference on the role of apology and similar efforts in settlements outside of the legal system.”

Pepperdine University has shifted toward training students to be ready to take on the practical side of legal work from day one on the job. It ranks 10th in the nation for practical training, and first in California.

“We have worked very hard to build a curriculum that calls for training practice-ready lawyers,” Tacha said. “We are clearly trying to be responsive to changes in the profession. Our career development office is committed to helping our students in finding new positions throughout their entire careers, which is fairly unique among law schools.”

When it comes to passing the bar,  Pepperdine University School of Law joins Stanford Law School, Berkeley Law, USC Gould School of Law, UCLA Law and Loyola Law School with the highest pass rates in the state.
