It was a GOOD week for:

West Coast bragging rights, after the Hollywood Reporter released its rankings of the Top 12 Entertainment Law Schools, based on the total number of alumni from each school who have made the Power 100 list. Unsurprisingly, the epicenter of entertainment law is Los Angeles, with four schools from the city featured on the list. The University of California at Los Angeles School of Law and the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law took the top two spots with 16 and 10 alums respectively.  Stanford University Law School and the University of California, Berkeley School of Law made the list as well, bringing the total number of featured California schools to six out of 12, and proving that a close proximity to Hollywood seems to pay off in entertainment law. East Coast schools had to settle for second best, with Harvard Law School taking the number three spot, and three New York-area schools falling close behind. The flyover part of the nation? Well … It’s why we fly over it.

It was a BAD week for:

Northwestern University School of Law, which was sued after expelling a convicted felon. The student, Mauricio Celis, is no run-of-the-mill criminal either. His felony conviction just happens to be falsely portraying himself as a lawyer. Celis was found guilty on 14 counts in 2009 and sentenced to 10 years of probation, but maintains that the incidents were simply a misunderstanding. Northwestern University stated in the suit that Celis was an undesirable candidate for the Master of Laws program, but Celis claims that no one asked about his criminal history to begin with The two parties eventually reached an agreement to dismiss the suit, presumably with the help of some actual lawyers.
