MAX helps students with personal finance — for free

Law school is tough enough academically-speaking. For most students, there's another challenge. And it too can keep you up at night.

It's money.

Many students go deep into debt to pay for their educations.

That's the reason AccessLex created MAX, a personal finance program designed exclusively for law students and offered free of charge to ABA-approved nonprofit and state-affiliated law schools. The 2018-2019 academic year marks the first time the MAX program has been available for second-year law students. Currently, 10,000 1L and 2L law students at more than 140 law schools across the country are participating in the program.

If you do so, you're also eligible for scholarships.

First-year law student, Zachary Mullings, said, “I am very thankful to AccessLex, not only for the scholarship opportunity, but for the financial literacy resources provided. School can be a very stressful time in our life, especially with the knowledge of looming tuition and costs associated with the endeavor. As such, it is a relief to have free financial education and support. It is because of AccessLex that I feel confident, informed and prepared.”

Students who complete MAX lessons and attend the program’s webinars and workshops earn entries into drawings throughout the year. In total, AccessLex Institute will award $220,000 in scholarships through the MAX program during the 2018-2019 academic year. Programming for third-year law students will be released in summer 2019 with additional scholarships being made available for 3Ls for the 2019-2020 academic year.

According to AccessLex: "Students often lack a framework for making good financial decisions, which can impact every aspect of their personal and professional futures. And while financial education counseling may be available, it is often not robust enough to meet their needs, nor is it tailored to address their individual circumstances. That’s why we created MAX, the first-of-its-kind, multi-faceted personal finance curriculum exclusively for law students."
