Recent grads who represent themselves in court, after a judge dismissed a lawsuit brought by a recent graduate from University of Michigan against his alma mater and a fellow student. Jesse Enjaian was investigated by campus police after a female student complained he was stalking her. The judge found that Enjaian had failed to state a claim of a constitutional violation related to when the police confiscated his electronic equipment and kept it for more than a year. “Enjaian has not alleged anything other than vague and conclusory assertions,” the judge held. “The Fourth Amendment does not protect against unreasonable delay in returning lawfully seized property to the owner.” Enjaian said he intends to refile his claim after fixing the procedural deficiencies.

Future professors at the University of Colorado Law School, after an alumnus dedicated $1.5 million to a professorship for a faculty member who demonstrates “active mentorship, hands-on engagement and a commitment to supporting diversity.”

Steve Hillard graduated in 1976 and founded Council Tree Investors, which is now sponsoring the Council Tree Professorship. Hillard said he felt an unfulfilled obligation to his alma mater, which prompted him to pledge the money.

According to Dean Phil Wiser, the school will seek to recruit and retain outstanding faculty with the new funding.
