The University of Denver Sturm College of Law has received a $3 million gift from the Roche Family Foundation and Robert W. Roche, JD’88 to establish the Roche Family International Business Transactions Program. The gift is the largest of its kind in the law school’s history.
“The Roche Family Foundation and Robert Roche’s generosity to the DU Sturm College of Law is unprecedented,” Dean Martin Katz said. “Their support has enabled the Sturm College of Law to leverage two areas critical to our strategic vision — international law and business law. We are honored by their vision and humbled by their generosity.
The gift will enable the law school to open the business transactions program, which will allow the law school to build a comprehensive program for transactional skills. Among uses for the gift are financial aid for top students, hiring top-tier faculty members and expanding international business law programming.
“I feel very lucky to be able to help the students at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law prepared for careers in a field I have found to be challenging and rewarding.” Roche said. “I have spent my professional life involved in international business transactions, helping the College of Law create a program in that very area is indeed fulfilling.”
While this is the largest gift given to the law school, it is not the first occurrence of Roche’s generosity. He has previously donated $1 million to create the Roche Chair at Nanzan University in Nagoya, Japan, where Roche studied as a law student.
