Prelaw magazine announced that 55 law schools will receive honors for best law school facilities in its Fall issue, including Syracuse University, Boston University, Fordham University and Quinnipiac University which are all unveiling new buildings this fall.
“Law schools have made tremendous strides in this regard since we launched preLaw magazine 18 years ago,” said Jack Crittenden, editor in chief and founder of National Jurist and preLaw magazines. “At that time a majority of law school facilities were in deplorable shape. Now more than one-fourth are excellent, and deserving of honors.”
The magazine assessed aesthetics, square footage per student on campus, library hours, number of library seats per student on campus, and amenities — dining, fitness, parking and lockers. It also included student comments from Princeton Review’s law school guidebook in its evaluation.
The magazine will rank the top 20 law schools and grade all of the 55 schools from B+ to A+ in its Fall issue.
Because the rankings are partly based on square footage and number of library seats per student, schools that have seen a decline in enrollment did better in the study than they would have a few years ago. This was especially true for Penn State’s Dickinson Law which just last month separated from the other Penn State campus. Dickinson, located in Carlisle, Penn., only has 155 students this year. Both Penn State campuses made the list.
The magazine counted part-time students as .75. It included graduate students in its count, but did not count online students.
The complete methodology and the rankings with grades will appear in the Fall issue of preLaw, due out in October. Here are the 55 schools that made the honor roll:
