Florida Coastal offers two-year J.D.

Florida Coastal School of Law will begin offering a two-year fast-track degree to select students this summer, a program that could save students as much as $50,000.

The JD Fast Track is an invitation-only program with the same number of credit hours as traditional three-year programs. Students will start their classes in the summer, on May 20.

The school said that although the program entails a rigorous schedule, students will reduce living expenses (since the program is shorter), and the school will not charge tuition for the final semester. The school will also enroll the students in the Coastal Law Enhanced Bar Preparation Program at no cost. This represents a total legal education savings of approximately $50,000, the school estimates.

The curriculum features two nine-week summer semesters of 10-credit hours each and four subsequent fall and spring semesters of 16 credit hours. In addition, students will take one skills course during each of the three subsequent intersession semesters. By the conclusion of the JD Fast Track program, students will have taken 90 credits in the law school curriculum, fulfilling the same requirements and educational experiences as students in a traditional three-year program.

Students entering the JD Fast Track program will have access to all opportunities for substantive legal work experience at Coastal Law, which consists of a full-range of electives, eligibility to be invited into the Coastal Law Honors Society, and participation in experiential learning opportunities including legal clinics, externships, and pro bono work.
