The University of Oregon School of Law hopes that its new Public Law and Policy program will help students channel their passion for public service into lifelong careers.
The program will expose students to courses, clinics, career planning and service opportunities that prepare them for success.
“I envision the program continuing, and building upon, this school’s engagement with judges, policymakers and public interest legal advocates in the state of Oregon and beyond,” said Professor Stuart Chinn, associate director for public service initiatives.
The program will offer students the chance to earn statements of completion in either Public Interest Law or Law & Public Policy. Students also may earn a certificate for Pro Bono Service. The program will look to build upon, and expand, present opportunities to earn concurrent degrees in Law and Public Administration (J.D./M.P.A.) and Law and Community and Regional Planning (J.D./M.C.R.P.).
The law school’s competitive Public Policy and Government 1L Fellowship Program also allows first-year students the opportunity to work alongside law school faculty members on public policy and public interest law-related research.
