UC Davis Law Professor Holly Cooper will be making her second trip to Haiti this month as a member of a human rights delegation.
In March, Cooper visited Haiti with the delegation of lawyers to provide legal aid to Haitian earthquake victims who qualify for humanitarian parole to the United States. Individuals who qualify include juveniles, pregnant women, and people with serious medical conditions. Cooper also plans to identify and assist victims of gender violence, such as women and children who are being raped in the tent camps.
“The people of Haiti seek dignity, food and water, medical treatment, and hope for their children,” said Cooper. “Our delegation is seeking cases that might compel our government to nobly and compassionately open its borders to offer sanctuary to the Haitian people.”
