Kaplan reportedly opening a law school in Washington

Real estate developers in Southeast Washington are reporting that Kaplan has been looking for office space suitable for the opening of a law school.

Sources say that Kaplan hired real estate brokerage firm Jones Lang La Salle and has been looking for up to 130,000 square feet near the Washington Nationals’ baseball stadium, in order to open a school in 2013. While Kaplan has declined to comment, the reports have developers scrambling to get in on the action.

According to P. Brian Connolly, senior vice president of Akridge, one of the companies vying for Kaplan to lease space, the placement would benefit the entire marketplace.

“It will end up being an 18 hours office-type use that will help bring restaurants, drinking establishments and other amenities down to the areas,” he said.

Kaplan is an educational company with campuses in Frederick and Hagerstown. The company offers degrees in business, criminal justice, law and other fields.
