Law students can now earn a J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Ind. and an LL.B. from Jindal Global Law School in four years and a summer, the two schools announced recently.
“Law schools like Columbia, Cornell and NYU have law degree programs with partner institutions in other countries,” said C. Raj Kumar, dean of Jindal Law. “However, the partnership with Indiana Law is the first time an Indian law school and a U.S. law school have worked together in this fashion. This is a unique initiative that underscores the importance of globalization of legal education and the legal profession.”
William Henderson, a professor at Indiana University, said this will help students be more attractive to law firms and U.S. companies with operations in India.
The schools have been working together recently, including a bilateral student exchange program, conferences co-sponsored by the two schools, and assistance in placing Indiana students in internships at law firms and corporations in India. In addition, seven Maurer School of Law faculty have visited, lectured or taught at Jindal Global Law School since the affiliation between the two schools was formed in November 2010.
