Southern California living, after American Lawyer reported that the happiest mid-level associates are in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County, Calif. the annual survey ranked firms based on responses from third-, fourth-, fifth-year associates. Both San Diego and Los Angeles benefited from the presence of a Paul Hastings office, which ranked number one among law firm offices in each city. Boston followed the three California locales. Rounding out the top seven were Atlanta, the San Francisco Bay Area and Houston. The bottom eight: Washington, D.C., Hong Kong, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Philadelphia, London, and Charlotte.
Domination of your larger, better-known rivals, after Campbell Law School, a small, private school in Raleigh, N.C., performed better than in-state rivals University of North Carolina, Wake Forrest and Duke University on the July bar exam. It reported a 94.53 percent pass rate. Campbell has consistently outperformed its rivals for the past 26 years. Students do not take a for-credit bar exam prep course. School leaders say the success is indicative of the school’s culture and practical curriculum.

Getting help from the President of the United States, after a recent law graduate wrote to President Obama through an online forum about his debt and employment challenges. The graduate wanted to know what hope the President could offer to people in his situation. The President said he understood “how tough it was out there for recent grads.” He then talked about lowering debt burdens, infrastructure and green jobs and taxing people who earn more than $250,000. But he did not address anything that would help recent law grads. Oh well.
