LSU dean resigns after 25 faculty request leadership change

It was a bad week for harmony, after the Chancellor and Dean of LSU Law Center, Jack Weiss, resigned due to major policy differences with the faculty. Twenty-five of the school’s 37 faculty members signed a letter in May requesting that the university make a change in leadership “as soon as practicable.”  Weiss said he has not seen the letter nor did any faculty member discuss the issues with him.

“The entire process took place behind my back without a single faculty member ever seeking to discuss his or her dissatisfaction directly with me,” Weiss told the Baton Rouge Advocate. “It was the adversarial environment the process exemplified [and not] the unseen document itself. [that led to the resignation.]”

Weiss said the major policy differences included reunification of the Law Center with LSU, development of an energy law program, and limiting upperclass required courses. Others have said there were issues related to his support of diversity.
