Richard and Karla Chernick have donated $13 million to the USC Gould School of Law to assist the school’s building fund endowment. It is the largest single contribution in the law school’s 122-year history.
Chernick graduated from Gould in 1970 and currently serves as the vice president and managing director of Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services Inc. He previously served as the president of the school’s Board of Councilors and has been a lecturer at the school since 2014. He has been involved with the school for many years, as a philanthropist in addition to being an educator. He helped build the ADR program, served as an advisory board member, and helped develop courses and activities.

“Because of their generosity, our law school can continue on the path to construct a new state-of-the-art environment for our students and faculty, as well as expand the school’s critical and cutting-edge programs,” said USC president Carol L. Folt.
Gould Dean Andrew T. Guzman said that Chernik’s dedication to the school’s success is an example to all of its students.
“We are honored by this investment in our future from Rich and Karla,” Guzman said. “For years to come, their historic gift toward USC Gould’s facilities will benefit students, faculty, and staff alike.”
USC Gould is currently planning the construction of a new building, and Chernik’s gift will be instrumental in moving the work forward.
