Syracuse University College of Law will be hosting its English for Lawyers program in 2023 for its tenth year. English for Lawyers is designed to help non-English speakers who hope to earn an LL.M. degree in the United States.
Syracuse University, located in New York state, collaborates with the university’s English Language Institute in this six-week program to provide future LL.M. students with a foundation in legal language. It focuses on legal reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, and is an introduction to the U.S. legal system.
Students in the program will work on projects, write essays and prepare presentations in their specific field. The students also have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers and attend field trips. Some find it easier to adjust to life in the U.S. through these interactive events.
“Living in another place is not easy. It is the beginning of a new history,” said English for Lawyers student Ludmilla Cardoso in a news release. “However, this experience is worth it. The English Language Institute prepares us to overcome challenges. When I return to my work, I will be able to serve the citizens even more carefully.”
The goal of the program is to create a community for these international students and connect them to a global network after completing school. The school estimates that tuition for the course will be $4,255 and is due in July 2023 on the first day of class.
