John Yoo and Berkeley are now trying to outfox the anti-war protestors by hiding the controversial professor’s Constitutional Law class.
Yoo, who returned to UC Berkeley this fall from a sabbatical, has been the focus of very vocal protests by two groups —World Can’t Wait and Fire John Yoo! They want Berkeley to fire the professor for drafting the so-called “torture memos” he wrote while working in the Bush administration.
But the protests were disrupting students. So when this semester began, the law school decided to make it harder for the protesters. Yoo’s class location was the only one not listed on the law school’s class schedule.
That led to a protest about the hidden class — with about 25 people, some clad in orange jumpsuits, demanding that the location be made public.
Yoo told Above the Law in an email, “The location of the class, of course, is available to the students who want to take it. If the protesters want to go, they could always apply for admission as 1Ls and pay the full tuition like everyone else. They will find that it is harder to compete for admission with our smart and accomplished students than it is to make a ruckus.”
