Getting free money, after law schools around the country continued to negotiate scholarships and accept applications beyond formal deadlines in the face of decreasing enrollment and increased competition among law schools.
As noted by the Wall Street Journal, the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law this year sent letters to admitted students stating “[w]e very much hope you find this offer competitive with others you have received.” In a letter from George Washington University Law School, “information about scholarships received from other schools” is listed among the school’s considerations for deciding scholarship offers.

Law students peacefully resolving disputes, after a third-year student at Florida State University College of Law was arrested and charged for allegedly shooting a rising second-year law student.
The shooting allegedly occurred during an off-campus incident on a Saturday morning when the third-year student, Jefferey Heller, shot the second-year student, Tyler Thomas, in the back at about 2:30 am on July 28. Thomas told police that Heller shot him after he threw a glass of water on Heller.
Tallahassee police charged Heller with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Heller’s attorney says they will deny the charges, but added that “[w]e are grateful Mr. Thomas was released from the hospital and is recovering.”
