Hofstra Law School appointed Professors Eric Lane and I. Bennett Capers to Associate Deans for Intellectual Life. In these new positions, Deans Lane and Capers will focus on creating thought leadership events and fostering faculty scholarship that increases Hofstra Law’s position as an academic leader in the legal community.
“Scholarship is a vital part of our academic enterprise, and I am so pleased that two wonderful colleagues, Eric Lane and Bennett Capers, have agreed to serve as Associate Deans for Intellectual Life,” said Dean Nora V. Demleitner. “By bringing scholars and distinguished practitioners in to exchange ideas and critical insights, Deans Lane and Capers will continue to build upon Hofstra Law’s tradition of cultivating a fund of knowledge and learning from which practitioners and members of the academy can draw and build upon.”
As part of his new role, Dean Lane will bring distinguished practitioners, both private and public, to Hofstra Law for presentations to students, faculty and others. He will also be responsible for helping interested faculty find opportunities to participate in policy making and other endeavors that advance the Hofstra Law tradition of making an impact in the legal field. Dean Lane is also the Eric J. Schmertz Distinguished Professor of Public Law and Public Service at Hofstra Law.
Dean Capers, associate professor of law, will focus on enriching the Hofstra Law community by planning faculty workshops and promoting events and programs that encourage intellectual pursuits among faculty and students.
“Each of them will bring a unique perspective, but their principal aims will be the same: To enhance the intellectual life of the law school by encouraging scholarly pursuits and developing unique programs that benefit the Hofstra Law community,” Demleitner added.
