Law student arrested for drug cartel involvement

John Belanger, who would be third-year law student at the University of Connecticut, was recently charged with partaking in an international drug-smuggling operation.

The operation involved transporting thousands of pounds of marijuana monthly from a Canadian Indian Reservation to eastern United States cities. Belanger and others were charged with possession and distribution of marijuana, conspiracy to launder monetary instruments and organizing a criminal enterprise after the Drug Enforcement Administration seized over 5,000 pounds of marijuana and $6 million in cash, according to a release by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
