Law students speak at DNC; Wimbledon finalist at Columbia; Cooley student files false claim toi impress girl

It was a Good Week for …

Getting heard, after a recent law graduate and a current student spoke at the Democratic National Convention. Sandra Fluke, who graduated from Georgetown University in the spring, spoke about reproductive rights, getting a prime time speaking slot. University of Oregon School of Law second-year student Eric Harris spoke on behald of the the disabled community. Harris, who uses a wheelchair, was asked to deliver a speech at the convention after completing an externship with the DNC during the summer.

Second chances, after Mario Ancic, a former Croatian tennis star who was a semifinalist in the 2004 Wimbledon, started classes at Columbia Law School. Ancic, once No. 7 in the world, battled chronic back pain and shoulder problems as a tennis star and was forced to retire at the age of 26. He got his law degree in Croatia and is now pursuing an LL.M.

Showing off to get a girl, after a law student at Thomas Cooley’s Auburn Hills, Mich.-branch told a female friend he had been assaulted by two men who called him a “terrorist.” He and the girl then filed a police report. But after several inconsistencies in his story, the law student fessed up and said he made up the story to get attention from his female friend. He now faces charges for filing a false report.
