LSAT test-takers plummet; 51% of schools cut enrollment

Law school applicants, after the LSAC reported that October LSAT test-takers were down 16.4 percent from the prior year, and 37.8 percent from two years ago. The October test has historically the largest number of exam takers. That means prospective students will have less competition.

It was a Bad week for ….

Law school applicants, after a Kaplan survey showed that 51 percent of law schools cut the size of the entering class. That means that as applications are falling, law schools are adapting by cutting open slots. Sixty-three percent of schools said they cut enrollment because of the contraction in the job market, and 28 percent plan to cut enrollment this next year.

Also, 47 percent of law schools have increased the amount of financial aid they have been able to provide students for the 2012-2013 cycle; 41 percent say they kept their level of financial aid at last year’s levels.
