Retiring in style as Richard Matasar was the target of a critical New York Times article only weeks after he announced he will step down following 11 years as dean of New York Law School. The article on the economics of law schools pointed to New York Law School as a prime example of a school making huge profits off a business model that exploits students. It painted Matasar in an unfavorable light, contrasting his vocal opposition to the “bigger is better” model of law school operation with the increase in tuition and enrollment at New York Law over the last several years.

Law student generosity after an anonymous tax LL.M sudent in Chicago volunteered to donate her kidney to a tax professor’s 13-year-old daughter. The professor put out a plea on the Taxprof blog asking for a donor to help save his very ill daughter and the student responded, saying “I’m type O blood and I’ve got an extra kidney, so why not help someone else.” Before the details of the offer could be worked out, the girl took a turn for the worse and a cadaver donor was found. As of the end of the month, the girl is doing well.
