Reclaim Harvard calls for free tuition

It was a GOOD week for big audacious goals after Harvard protesters who were successful in removing the school’s crest announced a new demand: free tuition.

The activist group Reclaim Harvard Law School has organized a number of protests as part of its efforts to promote greater diversity and inclusion, and says free tuition is a matter of justice.

They say the high cost to attend the elite Ivy League school unfairly burdens minority students and those from poorer backgrounds. Tuition at Harvard Law School will be just under $60,000 for the newest crop of first year students, and the class of 2015 graduated with an average of nearly $150,000 in debt, the group said.

The group is also demanding transparency in the school’s budget.

Harvard’s response? Free tuition would be unsustainable, and drawing down on the endowment would ultimately require higher tuition in the future.
