Cynthia Fountaine was appointed as Dean and Professor of Law at Southern Illinois University School of Law in July. Fountaine comes to the law school following a 13-year run on the faculty of Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
Fountaine is successful both academically and professionally. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University, Bloomington and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law. Before teaching she was a litigator at O’Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles, CA. Fountaine then went on to teach at Washington & Lee University School of Law and University of Cincinnati College of Law. Fountaine also has a number of published works in her areas of expertise including civil procedure, federal courts and legal ethics.
More recently, she was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Bayreuth in Germany where she taught U.S. Constitutional Law and U.S. Common Law Methods to German law students. In addition, she has served as a volunteer for the American Bar Association’s Rule of Law Initiative. She is also a member of the Tarrant County (Texas) Bar Association and the Dallas Bar Association, as well as an inactive member of the State Bar of California.
