Starr Foundation gives gift of $20 million to NYLS

New York Law School has received a $20 million gift from the Starr Foundation for its “Breaking New Ground Again” capital campaign. The gift is among the top 20 largest gifts ever given to a law school.

“The gift, which honors our esteemed alumnus, Maurice Greenberg, will be used to fund student scholarships and programs,” said New York Law School Dean and President Richard A. Matasar.

These programs include hands-on projects where students can gain experience in financial services, business, public service and real estate.

The gift comes in perfect timing, as the NYLS opened the doors of its new academic building on West Broadway just one year ago. In addition to expanding the campus, the law school intends to expand the availability of programs that facilitate hands-on legal education.

Dean Matasar said he could “think of no better use for this wonderful gift than to provide the support and programming our students need to become effective leaders of the legal profession.”
