Temple Law receives $1.5 million gift to support its national trial team

Temple University – James E. Beasley School of Law has received a $1.5 million gift to support the school’s national trial team.

The national trial team represents Temple Law in regional and national mock trial competitions. Students can audition for the team beginning in the spring of their first year of law school, and those who make the team earn academic credit for participation.

The trial team provides exceptional advocates the opportunity to further hone students’ courtroom skills while promoting Temple Law’s standard-setting approach to trial advocacy education.

The gift is from Daniel Rosner (J.D. ’83). The Temple Law team will now be known as the Temple Rosner National Trial Team.

Rachel Rebouché, dean of Temple Law, said the gift will further elevate the school’s trial advocacy program among its peers and opportunities for students.

“We’re grateful for [Rosner’s] partnership and support and excited to see what the Temple Rosner National Trial Team will accomplish,” Rebouché said.

Jules Epstein, director of advocacy programs at Temple Law, said the gift is significant to both students and the institution.

“Temple’s National Trial Team offers students a wealth of opportunities to improve their skills and to showcase those skills and Temple’s teaching and values to a national audience, elevating Temple’s standing around the globe as a preeminent advocacy school and hub,” Epstein said. “This generous gift — from an alum who has excelled as a trial lawyer — will help make that possible in perpetuity and inspire our students as they learn and succeed.”

Rosner said Temple Law’s trial advocacy program had an impact on his career.

“My Temple legal education set me on the path to success and made sure I was several steps ahead of my peers from other law schools in terms of courtroom skills, preparation for practice and confidence that I belonged in that arena,” Rosner said. “My intent with this gift is to help ensure that more Temple students, especially those with tremendous potential but limited resources, can access everything the trial advocacy program has to offer them. It’s an investment in the future for Temple Law and its talented students.”
