Temple law student charged with attempted homicide

Gerald Ung, a 3L at Temple University Beasley School of Law, is in custody after a shooting in the early morning hours of Jan. 17 in front of Fox 29’s studio in Philadelphia.

The incident, which was caught on camera at 4th and Market Streets, shows the shooting victim moving toward a man with a gun, who shoots several times. When the video is slowed down, the shooting victim can be seen delivering punches even as the gun is discharging. The shooter doesn’t flee, but takes out his cell to call for help.

The victim has been identified as Ed DiDonato, a Villanoa graduate, who is currently in critical condition.

Police sources told Fox 29 that Ung has a firearms permit issued to him from Virginia. He is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and related offenses.
