Hofstra Law creates new institute focused on legal technology and innovation

Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University has created the Institute for Legal Technology & Innovation, a new hub for interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of law and technology.

The Institute will focus on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and the digital assets ecosystem, as well as initiatives to expand access to justice.

“The Institute for Legal Technology & Innovation will give our students meaningful opportunities to explore emerging technologies through interdisciplinary research, experiential learning and engagement with the legal community,” Jenny Roberts, dean at Hofstra Law, said. “These experiences will prepare them to approach new challenges thoughtfully and help shape the future of the profession.”

Hofstra President Susan Poser said the institute will foster interdisciplinary collaboration, support meaningful community engagement and equip students with the skills and perspectives they need to lead in an increasingly complex and technology-driven world.

The institute is endowed with $2 million in philanthropic support, including a $1 million gift from alumnus Samuel Ramos ’91, former chief legal officer of Global Atlantic Financial Group.

Ramos has built a distinguished career at the forefront of legal strategy and innovation in the financial services industry. His experience navigating emerging technologies and regulatory environments has informed his commitment to ensuring that future lawyers are equipped with both strong legal foundations and technological fluency.

“The legal profession is at an inflection point, and law schools have a responsibility to prepare the next generation of attorneys for that reality,” Ramos said. “This Institute exists to give students hands-on exposure to the technologies and ideas reshaping legal practice and society at large.”
