New York University had the largest graduate law program in the U.S., with 706 students in 2013, followed by Georgetown University with 657 students. The two schools represent 15 percent of all graduate law students in the U.S., according to data from the American Bar Association. There were 9,394 LL.M. and other graduate law students in 2012-2013.
While graduate law students make up only 7 percent of all law students, they represent 33 percent of the student body at NYU and 25 percent at Georgetown. Other schools with a high percent of graduate students include Boston University at 29 percent, Temple University at 27 percent and University of Washington and University of Alabama at 24 percent.
Many of the schools with large graduate enrollments are highly ranked schools, including Harvard University, Columbia University and UC-Berkeley.
While 136 law schools have graduate law programs, only 31 have more than 100 students enrolled, according to data from the American Bar Association. Thirty-six schools have fewer than 10 graduate law students.
